Marset Discoco – Christophe Mathieu explains his lamp and creative process

Exuberant and attractive, the Marset Discocó range of fixtures offers an interplay of suggestive, highly effective lighting. The thirty-five abs discs lacquered in white vibrantly reflect the internal light source. On the outside, this reflection varies depending on the angle of the light, at the same time that provides direct illumination from its underside.

Lighting Designer: Jonathan Speirs 1958-2012

Image of Lighting Designer Jonathan Speirs

Today 6/18/12 is a sad day as we lose a great lighting designer and architect, Jonathan Speirs. We at lightKulture.com offer our sincere condolences to all his family and friends during this difficult time.

Practice Statement from Speirs and Major
“It is with great regret and deep personal sadness that we must announce that Jonathan Speirs lost his fight against cancer on 18/06/2012. Since his terminal diagnosis in late 2010 Jon showed characteristic strength and a steely determination to defy the life limiting constraints put upon him. He continued to work with us and travel widely until the end of 2011 finding energy and solace from the great loves of his life, his family and his work. Our thoughts are with Liz, Lucie, Erin, his sister, brothers and father. We will miss him dearly but will keep him with us, working to his and our primary objective: delivering great projects.” – SpeirsandMajor.com

Luceplan Honeycomb Modular LED Lamp

Honeycomb from Luceplan on Vimeo.

Like the cells of a beehive, the hexagonal modules of Honeycomb are joined freely into a suspension lamp with a captivating organic symmetry. The hexagons, connected by clips, give life to a self-supporting structure capable of housing energy-saving LED and halogen light sources.

Kill the Lights with BANG! Desk Lamp by Bitplay

Image of BANG Desk Lamp by Bitplay

BANG! created by Bitplay is a creative desk lamp with a gun-shaped remote controller. The user can fire the “gun” to turn the light off. The light goes out and the lampshade knocks to the side, showing that it’s been hit. To turn it back on, simply shoot it again, and the lampshade will raise up slowly and turn the light back on at the same time.
